Nagaland College Principals Association annual conference held
KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 4 (MExN): The Nagaland College Principals Association (NCPA) conducted its annual conference on the theme “Higher Education Concerns in Nagaland: The Way Forward” at Kohima College on November 4.
Giving the key note address, Pro Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof GT Thong, said good teachers, no matter what their circumstances are, are equipped to build a good and just society. Some, though lacking higher degrees, are as excellent. It is of utter importance and is a responsibility, that they acquire higher degrees so that the college can retain these teachers, he said.
“The NEP 2020 coverage is so vast that implementation is challenging and there is a need to take up challenges such as these to create a dynamic and evolutionary educational system. Today, value based education with added expertise is a prerequisite to survive in a highly competitive world,” he added.
He also highlighted some additional faculty challenges with the implementation of NEP 2020 such as the government investing properly in education, school and college level. He also encouraged the colleges to adapt to modern situations.
“There is a need to work together to build a robust educational system - a requisite for the progress of a society but for this an institution must have a strong administration, equality and non discrimination must be present as bureaucracy is stunning the growth of many institutions,” he stated.
Dr A Nshoga addressed the problems and challenges faced by the Principals in Nagaland, especially with the onslaught of the NEP 2020. He emphasized on the challenges to manpower, the syllabus, and financial assistance that the Colleges would need.
He also listed some roles/ challenges of principals which included faculty peer evaluation to be conducted online to improve tracing of faculty performance. As parent, teacher, student relationship is important; he also addressed the issue of the lack of parental involvement and said that all stakeholders support is needed to take education to the highest level of excellence.
He further mentioned the need to merge cultural heritages with traditional values in education to have a wider impact.
