MP Meyah
President, Eastern Naga National Organisation
Dear fellow countrymen,
On this auspicious historic Day of our nation, I extend my greetings to all our Eastern Naga people and thank Almighty God our Lord for safeguarding our nation up to this day. And on this historic Day, I salute our sagacious and farsighted leaders who founded our nation in their due time.
Following the declaration of the age-old Naga Independence on 14th August 1947 by the Naga National Council (NNC), the national Government, known as the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) was formed on this day, 70 years ago as the Nagas were a free nation. This was done by the Naga national leaders who were once under the British Colonial rule and the Free Nagas. The Government formation was based on the Naga traditional democracy, following the Nagaland Yehzabo (Constitution), which was written by the NNC in 1950 and approved by the Tatar Hoho (Parliament).
The Naga traditional democracy is handed down to us by our forefathers as an inheritance, and there is no room for us to replace it with a foreign political ideology such as socialism, fascism, or authoritarianism. We love the Naga tradition, as the Nagas have no King, no dictator, no Landlord, no class system, no gender discrimination, women and men have equal rights in our society. However, some of our leaders adopted socialism 46 years ago, which fragmented the solidarity of our nation. To date, we are facing a significant problem of national disunity, as all Nagas prefer our own traditional democracy over foreign political ideologies.
To build a robust national unity, the young leaders of the NSCN today have to realize the mistakes of the past leaders and stand for the Naga traditional democracy, stand the Nagas as a nation (not demanding any political status under a foreign nation), and strive to achieve our national goal based on history. Unless the NSCN leaders review their stance, there is no hope for national unity at present. As we all understand the importance and the need for national unity, taking the right steps is, therefore, imperative in our time.
We are proud of being an independent nation, because our pioneer leaders did the right thing in their time, without any mistakes, and left us their legacy to follow. Why then do some leaders stand for socialism and create disunity among us? Which is unwise and should be stopped immediately, and revised it for a better tomorrow or the next generation.
Also, we are proud of being a Christian nation and stand “Nagaland for Christ”. God has always been protecting our nation from the beginning up to the present day, and He miraculously saved our nation from doom in 1975. If not God, how can our nation be saved in those days? However, some of our leaders have failed to thank and praise God for His miraculous deeds to save Nagaland; instead, they have committed egregious sins against God in their time. These must be urgently recognised and repented of in the interest of national unity, so that our people may march ahead and speak in a unified voice as an independent and Christian nation.
In conclusion, I have expressed above, for the importance of Naga national unity and to value our national history, because if we do not strive to achieve our national goal based on history, our effort will be in vain. And once again, I urge our young people not to waste their time on foreign political ideology, but to love our own traditional democracy, stand for unity, and trust in God Jesus Christ in action, not only in name.
God bless Nagaland.
KUKNALIM.
