Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The Voluntary Consumer Organization (VCO), Zunheboto has observed World Consumers Day along with rest of the world, by inviting students from various Schools and institutions. A press note issued by Y. Katovi Awomi, advocate, public notary Zunheboto, chairman, VCO Zunheboto informs that the highlights of the programme were focused on consumer’s awareness, consumer’s right and its activities. It is felt that creating awareness amongst student and conducting seminar, workshop and exposure needs immediate attention at Schools and College. The note also mentioned that the programme was sponsored by the department of Legal Meteorology and Consumer Protection.
The VCO Zunheboto meanwhile stated that it has been taking initiative to create awareness in the entire district since 2001-02, but due to lack of assistance, the organization has not been able to even meet its minimum subsistence to maintain its office and finds difficulty to create wide public awareness. The organization also informed that in Zunheboto district, consumer dispute redressal forum could not perform its much need service due to absence of District Session Judge.
“In the district, public service has been neglected beyond expression, as almost all the public offices remain unattended and had become non-functional due to absence of officers and staff. Not only the development fund being squeezed, but also public service department had become defunct. In these major issues, the concern government should intervene and take necessary action for the development and progress of the district,” stated the note.
