‘VDB is non political organisation’

Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): VDB functionaries representing the VDB associations of entire districts of Nagaland, while expressing their solidarity towards any group that attempts to improve the welfare of the VDBs of Nagaland and rural people in general, have requested that “such measures to mitigate the problems of rural people, which the VDBs represent, should not be politicized.”

A press release appended by officials of VDB associations of ten districts said that VDB is a non political organisation and any attempt to derive political mileage using the VDBs as platform will not benefit anyone or any group in the long run.

They also appreciated the concern shown by the Congress party for proposing to stage a dharna on May 20 for non-release of 100 man days under MGNREGA by the government of India.

“The 100 man days of guaranteed employment under MGNREGA are not mandatory but a limit set in the guidelines as the maximum days a MGNREGA job card holder can benefit from,” the VDB functionaries stated. Therefore, we affirm and confirm that no government at the centre till date, irrespective of political dispensation has provided 100 man days to any state.”

In addition, the VDB functionaries requested the State Finance Department to soon release the centre released fund along with the state share since MGNREGA is a time bound demand driven programme and any delay in fund release reduces the time to absorb the funds, thereby drastically reducing the total fund allocation.

The signatories were Imjong Chang, President, VDB Association, Tuensang; Wangpai M. Wangsa, President, VDB Association, Mon; Dr.  Imtinungba, President, VDB Association, Mokokchung; Meyirenba Phom, President, VDB Association, Longleng; Tsipithong Sangtam,  President, VDB Association, Kiphire; Vishiho Zhimo, President, VDB Association, Zunheboto; Bichamo Shitiri, President, VDB Association, Wokha; Khusuzo Khamo, President, VDB Association, Phek; Kiukesiulung,  President, VDB Association, Peren; Thrilongse Sangtam, General Secretary, VDB Association, Dimapur.
