Vegetable farm school inaugurated in Medziphema

Dimapur, July 11 (MExN): The ATMA Dimapur Medziphema block in collaboration with Sub Divisional Agriculture Office (SDAO), Medziphema inaugurated a vegetable farm school at Medziphema village on July 3 with the objective of promoting farmer-farmer extension for fast and effective transfer of technology, 

Altogether 17 farmers attended the programme where vegetable seeds, knapsack sprayers, trichoderma, neem oil, bee box and financial assistance was provided to the participants, informed a delayed press received here on Sunday.

During the event, BTM Chubanaro briefed on the concept, function and the role of a farm school and its objectives while Sedelhoutuo Chase was appointed as the farm school teacher, it said. 

SDAO Medziphema, Rosemary Ezung in her key note address dwelt on the importance of tapping the economic and nutritional power of vegetables. She also highlighted the importance of vegetable farming and its benefits; use of biofertilisers and ascertaining seed quality; optimal time of sowing and method of planting. The role of honey bees in crop production and advantages of bee keeping were further discussed. 

In the technical session, a practical demonstration on beekeeping was conducted by E Lireni Kikon, ACTO, KVK (ICAR), Jharnapani on the handling of the modern bee box and its uses, the release said.  

Advocating the role of honey bees in agriculture and income generation by honey production, Kikon further demonstrated the proper way of be keeping bee box in farmlands to help incross-pollination and increase the yield of the crops, it added.
