Vehicles fail pollution test in Kohima

Dimapur, April 16 (MExN): Under the initiative of the Sr. Superintendent of Police, Kohima, a team from Nagaland Pollution Control Board conducted air quality, noise and vehicular emission tests at New Secretariat area in Kohima on April 15. The campaign, aimed at educating police over the monitoring of air, noise and vehicular pollution, was attended by around 20 police officers from DEF Kohima.   Checks were carried out on 36 four wheelers, out of which, 33 were found within permissible limits whereas 3 failed the test. One of the vehicles which failed the test was found with a valid pollution certificate (PUCC) issued by Transport Department, according to a release from PRO, Kohima Police. Tests were also done on 8 two wheelers, where 3 were found within the permissible limits, while 5 failed the test.

  The release said that DEF Kohima will be carrying out such exercises in the near future in order to enforce the pollution emission regulations.   With a view to create awareness for general public, the PRO also informed with regard to vehicles plying with excessive thick black smoke which is posing health hazards to the citizens and the environment. “Black smoke emissions is gas that spew from automobile and pollutes the environment with its combination of un-burnt hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, which forms a photo chemical smog, acid deposition and towering CO levels causing respiratory deficiencies,” he stated.
