17 years Venü Vedeo today emerged the coveted champion title of the 30th Wrestling Meet 2024 of Chozuba Range Wrestling Association (CRWA) held at Chozuba town in Phek district.

Winning the champion title, Venü, son of Zaseta Vadeo from Rünguzu village has been awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, sponsored by Er Vekürhü Venyo, EE PWD, Phek
27 years Rukulhu Phese-o, son of Mudongoyi Phese-o from Rünguzu village bagged second position and pocketed Rs 80,000, sponsored by Nezosa Tetseo, president Phek District Sports Association. 23 years Venüto Nyekha, son of Lt Vekhwütso Nyekha from Chozuba town stood third position and awarded with Rs.60, 000, sponsored by Rhütsüiyi Rhakho, entrepreneur. 34 years Vekhosazo Dozo, son of Rhüyi Dozo from Thüvopisü village bagged 4th position and awarded with Rs 40,000, sponsored by Besükroyi Nyekha, entrepreneur.

Khrethoveyi is Under 16 Category champ
In Under 16 Category, Khrethoveyi, son of Besüto from Süthozu Nagwü emerged the champion title.

Mudeyi Ringa, son of Thüpuyo Ringa from Chozuba town bagged second position. Thüjosa Dozo, son of Vezoto Dozo from Thüvopisü village and Dütü Sapu, son of Velaku Sapu from Phühgi village bagged 3rd and 4th position respectively.

The prize money for junior category was jointly sponsored by Kuto Khüsoh, educator and Er Zacükho Thingo, JE PHED Pfutsero.

‘Strive for higher excellence’: Advisor Khamo
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 30th Wrestling Meet 2024 of Chozuba Range Wrestling Association (CRWA) as the special guest, Nagaland CAWD & Taxes Advisor Küdecho Khamo called upon the youth to give due importance towards sport which is growing popularity around the world.

He called upon the sports lovers not to be complacent with their achievement in the village or area level but to strive for higher excellence in the district, state, regional, national and international level.
Talking on the social impact and economic importance of sport in modern society, Khamo stressed on the need to take sports as profession and contribute to social well- being.

He extended best wishes to Phek district team for the upcoming Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2024, to be held from February 12- 17 across Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts.
He recalled that Phek district bagged 59 medals in the last Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games.

He informed that Nagaland is going to host North East Olympic Games by March- April this year.

Khamo, who is also president of Nagaland Wushu Association, called upon the youth to join this event (Wushu) as it offer bright scope in the national and international level. 
Stating that the state government under the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is serious for promotion of sports in the state, he said that sport infrastructure are being taken up extensively across the state to push the sports industry forward.

He challenged the sportspersons to amplify their vision and avoid intoxicating substance for a healthy and vibrant society.

He also wanted to see “Tobacco and alcohol free zone” during sports activities.

Further, Khamo also called upon the youth to become an agent of peace and asset to the society.

‘Uphold originality of Naga style wrestling’
Also addressing the wrestlers and spectators as the guest of honour, Chitsoru Vasa, Deputy Director, Rural Development, Govt of Nagaland, urged upon the wrestlers to be committed and become master in it.

He maintained that wrestling has been gaining popularity across the world and urged upon the wrestlers to give utmost attention and bring laurel to the district and the state.
While also encouraging free style and belt wrestling, Vasa stressed on the need to uphold the originality of Naga style wrestling for a long time to come.

Earlier, CRWA President Dr Chekhwiiveyi Khüsoh led the inaugural function while CRWA vice president Küpopra Rhakho administered oath to 42 wrestlers in senior and 22 in junior category.
Sasüyi Nyekha from Süthozu Nagwü has been declared as the best tactic wrestler and awarded with Rs. 5000.

Sevonyi Keyho will lead CRWA for the tenure 2024-28 as the president and Küshoneyi Phesao as general secretary among the others.

Meanwhile, CRWA will be hosting the forthcoming 29th Chakhesang wrestling meet 2024 of Chakhesang Wrestling Association at Chozuba town on February 9 with Chozuba Town Baptist Church as ground management.
