Dimapur, Dec 18 (MExN): In a dreadful case of criminal justification, a burglar returned to shoot the owner of a house he had robbed earlier, at Longtsung village under Wokha district, on November 10 around 10:30 pm. The vengeful burglar, identified as one Renben Tsopoe from Morakjo village, intended to ‘settle scores’ with the owner after being caught red-handed by villagers in the course of robbing ransacking the victim’s shop.
The victim is identified as one Nribemo Ovung of Longtsung village. An account informed that villagers caught red-handed the accused Renben and his accomplice, one Elithung Odyuo of Morakjo village, robbing the victim’s shop around 7pm on the 10th. Both the accused persons were later released on a condition set by Longtsung Village Council. However, late in the night around 10:30pm, Renben returned with a .22 rifle belonging to his father and shot Nribemo leaving the victim critically injured. After exacting his ‘revenge’, the accused fled the village. The Longtsung Village Council also took action against his accomplice, Elithung. The council has banned for lifetime both the accused Renben Tsopoe and his accomplice Elithung Odyuo from entering the village. It was also decided that any person with ‘guns/weapons of any type’ from Morakjo village are prohibited from entering the jurisdiction of Longtsung.
Condemning the action of the accused as ‘barbaric and savage which does not have any room in the present society’, Longtsung Village Council Chairperson KH Azamo Mozhui, Longtsung Village Eloe (women) Hoho Chairperson C Mhonsali Mozhui and Longtsung Students’ Union President N Mhabemo Mozhui appeals to the concern authorities to book the culprits and deny bail to them in any manner as this would endanger the lives of others. The three Longtsung organizations also urged both the factions of the NSCN not to entertain such “lunatic and feeble person with vengeful mind”.
