Reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo defeated former champion Vevohu Swuro in the final bout to retain the title at the 27th wrestling meet of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) here today.


Standing 5’10 feet tall and weighting 97 kg, 24 year old Dawhuo hails from Thenyizu village representing Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA),


He will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1.50 lakh including CWA Champion Running Belt introduced by the family members of Late Chosanyi Rose.


Venuzo Dawhuo won the first bout in the final and declared champion after Vevohu Swuro retired due to injury.


29 year old Vevohu also representing CAWA and from Thenyizu village stands 6’1 tall and weighting 110kg. He will pocket a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.


Pfüsato Tetseo from Khulazu Bawe and representing CAWA stood third position. He will pocket Rs. 80,000.


Vekutho Soho of Phek village and representing Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA) bagged fourth position and will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.


Pfusato lost to Venuzo in the first semi finals while Vekutho lost to Vevolhu  Swuro in the second semi finals. Former champion Vechita Khesoh lost to Vekutho Soho in the quarter finals.


The losing quarter finalists Reka Mero, Besuhveto Cümu, Vechita Khesoh and Hukhoneiyi Chuzho will receive Rs. 8000 each.


Meanwhile, the Under-16 wrestling championship will take place on February 19 from 10:00 AM onwards.


Earlier, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu graced the inaugural function as the special guest. CWA president Vezuhu Keyho delivered presidential address while Huvesu Puro administered oath to the wrestlers.


Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) vice president Neikhrolo Khalo will be valedictory guest on February 19 and will give away prizes to the winners.
