Reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo today retained the title of Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA) 30th biennial wrestling meet 2024 held at Chetheba Town Local Ground.
Retaining the champion’s title, Dawhuo, son of Nezohu Dawhuo from Thenyizu village pocketedd a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh sponsored by Nuzota Swuro, Chairman, Bamboo Development Agency, Government of Nagaland.
He defeated Cusavoyi Chuzho in the semi finals. Weighing 105 kg and standing 5'10 ft, Dawhuo qualified for individual round after defeating Ngonuyi Yhobu, Nuvoto Nienu and Nuchoyo Vero in the first, second and third round respectively.
Vemele Thingo, son of Dikhamo Thingo from Thipuzu bagged second position and awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 80,000, sponsored by Vesupra Kezo, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dimapur.
Thingo overpowered Mudozho Kapu in the semi finals.
Cusavoyi Chuzho, son of Lt. Mulusato Chuzho from Chetheba stood third position and awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 70, 000 sponsored by Muzito Thenucho Tunyi, Proprietor, CIMORB Hotel Kohima.
Mudozho Kapu, son of Newsuyi Kapu from Thenyizu village bagged 4th position and received Rs. 60, 000 sponsored by Chorayi Veyie, Deputy Development Commissioner, Planning & Transformation department, Govt of Nagaland.
In the Under 16 Category, NgosaTunyi, son of Sahisuyo Tunyi from Kikruma emerged the champion title.
Mutsezo Puro, son of Chikrotsa Puro from Kikruma bagged second position.
Khruzo Tetseo, son of Huveta Tetseo from Khulazu Basa stood third position while Nungotso Nakro, son of Meleyi Nakro from Thenyizu bagged 4th position.
Prizes for the Under 16 category at Rs 60,000 was sponsored by Er Muzivoyi Ringa, SDO, PWD (R&B), Dimapur Division.
Earlier, Nagaland CAWD & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo and Kühüpoyo Puro, former Vice President, Wrestling Federation of India graced the meet as special guest and guest of honour respectively.
CAWA president Vezhodüyi Thisa delivered the presidential address during the opening ceremony while CAWA Technical Secretary Thepukhoyi Swuro administered the oath to the wrestlers.
Altogether, 28 wrestlers in senior category and 10 in Under 16 Category vied for the meet.
