Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): Two training programmes, two days each on Vermiculture and Vermicompost production for unemployed youths/ NGOs/farmers of Nagaland was held at Dhansiripar village and Amaluma village each on March 15, 16 and on 17, 18, 2011 respectively.
Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK Dimapur emphasized on vermicomposting as an important component of organic farming and earthworms/ vermin-worms as real friends of the farmers. She also stated that Vermicompost is Black gold for farmers. Speaking on the occasion. senior consultant IGNOU, Agartala regional Centre, Tripura Dr. B.B. Sarkar mentioned that Vermicompost has a great potential for NEH region and stated that Vermicompost contains more than five times nitrogen, seven times more phosphorous, eleven times more potash and two times more calcium and magnesium than other locally available manures. Z. James Kikon, SMS (Soil Sc.) KVK Dimapur narrated on Relevance of Vermicompost in sustainable agriculture for additional household income using locally available and low cost, low energy biotechnology “Vermiculture”.
During the training programme farmers mostly the women folks were taught on preparation of Vermicompost on home scale with method demonstration on vermicomposting techniques. Practical demonstration on Vermicomposting was also done. The valedictory function was graced by Dr. T. Iralu, Regional Director, IGNOU Kohima, Nagaland Centre as Chief Guest and highlighted the activities of IGNOU to the participants. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Z.James Kikon, after distribution of certificates to the participants.
A total of 108 farmers attended the training, 50 farmers from Dhansiripar village and 58 farmers from Amaluma village respectively.
