Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): The eight-day model training on ‘Small scale dairy development as a means of livelihood improvement in North-Eastern Region’ concluded on October 31 at NRC on Mithun.
A total of 18 Veterinary Officers from State Veterinary Departments of different North-Eastern States like Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland and Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) from various KVKs in Nagaland participated in the training. MK Mero, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Nagaland graced the occasion as chief guest.
He highlighted the deficiency in production of milk and meat in the North East region, including Nagaland, and low per capita availability of milk compared to national average.
In order to increase milk production, he stressed upon the need to improve the existing local cattle in Nagaland. He further appreciated the efforts taken by NRC on Mithun for organizing such training on dairy development. Guest of Honour, Professor (Dr.) S. Pan from West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences also emphasized to focus on small scale dairy farming as an alternative source of livelihood.
Dr. ND Minto, Director of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, who was also present as a guest of honour, emphasised the need to impart the knowledge gained by the Veterinary Officers and Extension Officers to the real stakeholders like dairy farmers in the respective states.
Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, NRC on Mithun congratulated all the participants for successfully completing the training and hoped that in future many such programmes will be organized both in dairy as well as Mithun husbandry.
Certificates and other technical materials were distributed to the trainees by the chief guest.
