Urges NSSB to start recruitment process at the earliest

The Rising People’s Party (RRP) while terming the May 9 ruling by the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court (GHC) on NSSB as “victory for the student community’ urged the board to start recruitment process at the earliest.

As reported The Morung Express on Tuesday, the Division Bench of Justice Songkhupchung Serto and Justice Nelson Sailo on May 9 disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), stating: “Since everything is in place the Board shall start functioning and conduct exams at the earliest as people of the state have been eagerly waiting for so long.”

Based on the “Compliance Affidavit” filed by the Government of Nagaland, the Bench “finally disposed off the PIL on (setting up of) NSSB,” the RPP stated in a press release.

As per the affidavit, the Chairman of the NSSB took charge of the Board on February 16 while its office in the New Directorate Building of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services is up and running since April 22, it said.

Charges State Govt of delay tactics

Meanwhile, the RPP maintained that while the State Government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio issued a notification constituting the NSSB in July 2020, it “remained only in paper” even after lapse of one year.

“Instead, the State Government on 16th July 2021 opted for backdoor appointment of more than 1400 posts which needless to say horrified every right thinking citizens,” it alleged.

Consequently, to “salvage the future of the student community,” the RPP said it filed a PIL on August 31, 2021 through Neiteo Koza, Advocate and Counsellor for the petitioners.

Though the case could have been disposed off as early as November 2021, the delay tactics of the government advocates ensured otherwise, and many students crossed the age limit, unfortunately, it said.

However, after numerous hearings and delay tactics of the state government, the “Judges finally saved the day for the student community,” it added.

“This victory is a victory for the student community and credit for it goes to the NSF, PSAN, ENSF and others such as ACAUT in the initial years,” it added.

Within the disposal of the case, the RRP also urged the NSSB to start the recruitment process at the earliest.

Further, it called for consideration of age relaxation of those students crossing the age limit, as it was the “UDA (United Democratic Alliance) coalition which created the problem in the first place, including creating delay tactics during the hearing period.

The flip-flop of the State government against the student community should not be forgotten either, it added.

The RPP further pledged that it “comes to power,” the party would ensure that interview in NSSB exams is done away with in order to curb nepotism and favouritism.

“Only the written marks will be considered for the final merit list,” it added.
