Kohima, January 19 (MExN): Under the theme, “Victory with Sincerity,” the 57th Wrestling Meet of the Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) began on January 19 with Deo Nukhu, Parliamentary Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, as the Chief Guest in the inaugural function. 52 wrestlers will be participating in the 57th Wrestling Meet.
“Wrestling was treated as the most prestigious Sport of our people,” said Nukhu while speaking at the inaugural function of the meet held at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local Ground. Lauding NASA for producing some of the best wrestlers in the State, Nukhu reminded that greater achievements are expected from NASA. Naga Wrestling should be promoted but at the same time, we must also venture into national style wrestling including martial arts, mentioned Nukhu who also stressed on the importance of discipline in wrestling. Even if a sportsperson is strong and skilled but if he does not abide by the law and rules, Nukhu viewed that the sportsman lose respect. “Discipline is an example of good sportsmanship,” concluded Nukhu urging all the wrestlers to bring laurels for their people.
The closing ceremony will be held on January 20 with FP Solo, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT, as the Guest of Honour.
Keduovilie wins NASA Wrestling Meet
Kohima, January 19 (MExN): 30 year old Keduovilie Zumvü, son of Razouvolhoulie, emerged as the Champion of the NASA Wrestling Meet held on 19 January at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local ground. Standing 5.10 ft tall and weighing 93 kgs, Keduovilie, who hails from Tuophema village, downed Khriekethotuo Mepfüo from Kohima village in the final bout of the tournament. Kikruvilie Zumvü from Tuophema village and Menuosetuo Yiese from Kohima village bagged third and fourth positions respectively. The champion walked away with Rs. 70,000 while the runner-up took home Rs. 50,000. The third and fourth holders walked away with Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. Overall, Group A (Kohima village) scored the highest with 80 points followed by Group B with 58 & 1/2 points. Group C had 33 points while Group D finished with 32 points.
