A publisher’s note from Vishü Rita Krocha, publisher of PenThrill, was read at the event. In her note, Krocha expressed her regret at being unable to attend the launch, highlighting the significance of the event as it marked the 97th publication of PenThrill and first time the publishing house had launched a book in Mokokchung. She expressed her gratitude to the attendees and emphasised that “Vignettes” offers a personal journey that reflects Mechi’s experiences growing up, with the hope that readers will find pieces of their own lives within the pages.
During her address, Dr Lanurenla remarked, “Literature should always be about one’s roots.” She also reflected on the significance of literary achievements, noting that every writer is a winner, as their work stems from heartfelt experiences.
She encouraged the audience to avoid being part of a cancel culture and instead to embrace an inclusive culture that speaks the language of artists. In her closing words, she conveyed her best wishes to the young author, stating, “I believe you will take thousands of strides and will author many more books in your name.”
In his author’s talk, Mechi Imchen described “Vignettes” as a collection of memories and stories, a mosaic of joyful and sorrowful moments from his life. He also expressed his gratitude to Vishü Rita Krocha of PenThrill Publishing House and his close friends for their support.
Dr Tialila, Principal of Pfutsero Government College and a close friend of Mechi’s late mother, read from a chapter titled Fortitude, offering a glimpse into the book’s narrative. Additionally, a review of the book was presented by Ronojyoti Roy, a former teacher of the author.
