Vijay Hazare Trophy: Nagaland lose to Bengal

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Senior Men's Cricket team started their campaign at the Vijay Hazare Trophy with a loss as AR Easwaran and Sudip Kumar Gharami made 57 runs and 62 runs each for a comfortable Bengal win over Nagaland by 9 wickets.

Earlier after having won the toss the Bengal captain Sudip Kumar Gharami chose to field first and despite a great start for the Nagaland team by the opening duo of Joshua Ben Longkumer and Sedezhalie Rupreo, the Nagaland team could only muster 139 runs on the board. The Bengal bowlers bowled skillfully and all the bowlers were successful in picking up wickets with Sak Sham Chaudhary getting 3 wickets, Karan Lal and Akash Deep claiming 2 wickets while Ishan Porel, Shahbaz and Pradipta Pramanik also managed to claim a wicket each.

Sumit Kumar top scored for the Nagaland side with 36 runs. The run chase was a one sided affair as the Bengal batters easily achieved their target in 18.5 overs. RS Jaganath Sinivas was the only successful bowler for Nagaland picking up the lone wicket of Bengal.

Nagaland will next take on Madhya Pradesh on November 25 at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Mumbai.
