Stuart Binny stars in win over Mizoram
Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): Stuart Binny starred with 80 runs and 2 wickets as Nagaland outplayed Mizoram in the Round 2, Plate match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 at the India Cement Limited Guru Nanak College Ground, Chennai on February 23.
Winning the toss, the Nagaland team elected to bat first and amassed 347 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs.
Stuart Binny led the scorecard with 80 runs with significant contributions from Sedezhalie Rupreo (65), Jonathan Rongsen (62), Hokaito Zhimomi (33), Chetan Bist (31) and SS Mundhe (30).
Varte Kima took a 5-wicket haul for Mizoram while G Lalbiakvela, Pratik Desai and Bobby took 1 wicket each.
In reply, Pratik Desai (141) and Taruwar Kohli (108) put up a good chase for team Mizoram. However, the 348 run target proved too much as Nagaland restricted them to 318/6 in the full quota of 50 overs.
Stuart Binny claimed 2 wickets while teenage sensation Khrievitso Kense also continued his good run with 2 wickets to his name. The other two wickets for team Nagaland was taken by Nagaho Chishi. This was the second match for Nagaland who won their first match of the trophy against Sikkim while Mizoram’s first match was washed out.
Nagaland’s next match is against Assam on February 25 at 9:00 am.
Roundup: Chandigarh stun Bengal
Kolkata, February 23 (IANS): Minnows Chandigarh pulled off a second straight upset win in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Tuesday when they shocked former champions Bengal by five wickets here. Earlier, Chandigarh had beaten Haryana in their first match of the 50-over tournament.
Opener Arslan Khan scored 88 while Shivam Bhambri scored an unbeaten 71 as Chandigarh scored 257/5 wickets in 50 overs after restricting Bengal to 253/9 wickets in 50 overs at Eden Gardens.
Among bowlers, Chandigarh’s Gaurav Gambhir, Bipul Sharma, and Gurinder Singh took two wickets each while Shahbaz Ahmed with 59 runs was the top scorer for Bengal.
Meanwhile, Rishi Dhawan starred with bat and ball in Himachal Pradesh’s four-wicket win over Rajasthan in Jaipur. Dhawan took six wickets for 27 runs before scoring an unbeaten 73 to lead Himachal to victory with nearly 20 overs to spare.
Captain Shreyas Iyer scored 103 to lead Mumbai to a six-wicket win over Maharashtra, also in Jaipur. Fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni’s five-wicket haul helped Mumbai restrict Maharashtra to 279/9 wickets despite Yash Nahar (119) and Azim Kazi (104) scoring centuries. Iyer’s ton helped Mumbai overhaul Maharashtra’s total and finish at 280/4 wickets in 47.2 overs.
