Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2025 underway in Dimapur and Jakhama

JAKHAMA/DIMAPUR, MARCH 21 (MExN): The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2025 is underway at St Joseph's College (A), Jakhama and Eastern Christian College, Padumpukhuri bringing together youth from several districts to engage in dialogue on India's future. The event, which runs from March 21-22, focuses on the theme “One Nation, One Election: Paving the way for Viksit Bharat.”

At St Joseph's College (A), Jakhama, the event saw 44 participants from the nodal districts of Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, and Tseminyu attend on the first day, out of 75 expected.

The event was anchored by Khumo H and began with an invocation led by Dr Sr. Thressiama VG, Vice Principal of Academic Affairs at St. Joseph's College. This was followed by a welcome address by Kelengol Neikha, NSS Programme Officer and Assistant Professor at the college, who emphasized the importance of youth participation in nation-building and expressed gratitude to the attendees.

Dr Fr. George Keduolhou Angami, Principal of St. Joseph’s College, delivered the keynote address, stressing the crucial role of youth in shaping the future of India. He urged the participants to look beyond current challenges and focus on long-term goals that contribute to national development.

A key segment of the event was a speech competition where participants from the four districts presented speeches on themes related to the Viksit Bharat vision for 2047. The speeches focused on the topic of ‘One Nation, One Election,’ with participants discussing how this initiative could lead to economic growth, digital transformation, and sustainable development, while aligning with the aspirations of India’s youth.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners, encouraging continued engagement in national development efforts.

The second day of the event will feature speeches from the remaining 75 participants. Following their presentations, the results will be announced, and 10 students will be selected to represent at the state level, with the opportunity to proceed to the national level.

At Eastern Christian College (ECC), Padumpukhuri, a total of 140 participants from five districts—Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Peren, and Wokha—were selected to take part in the two-day event. On the first day, 30 registered participants delivered speeches on the event’s central theme.

The event’s juries include Mmhonlumo Kikon, National Spokesperson of BJP and former Minister, Government of Nagaland; Ruokuovikho, State Programme Assistant at NYKS Nagaland; Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer of DMC; Fr (Dr.) Prof. Sunny Joseph, Professor at St Joseph University and Nuneseno Chase, Director of YouthNet. Exhortation was delivered by Mmhonlumo Kikon.
