Dimapur, January 12 (MExN): In a move to bring peace and unity among the Nagas, village chiefs from Nagaland, under the banner of Village Chief/GB Federation of Nagaland, have expressed their “willingness” to bring unity among the Nagas, with a promise to “convene all leaders within 90 days from the date of publication of this appeal”. This was mentioned in a note to the press by TL Angami, Founder and Advisor to the said Federation.
Noting that the Government of India’s “divide and rule” policy has continued to keep the Nagas apart, Angami said that “the efforts of the Churches, the NGOs and the FNR have miserably failed to bring the different factions of Nagas under one umbrella though they called themselves as ‘Apex’ body.” In spite of all the hardships faced by the Nagas, the Village Chief/GB Federation said that the political issue between the Government of India and the Nagas is yet to be finalized and that the Village Chiefs of Nagaland, and their respective villages, have provided ration to Naga national workers since 1947.
“Therefore, the village chiefs are willing to bring unity among the Naga underground leaders of various factional workers as they have authority to initiate the issue for the interest of the Nagas. The Village Chiefs of Nagaland also assure that the Village Chiefs can sign or put their thumb impression on any rightful and amicable settlement on behalf of the Nagas, whereas other NGOs do not have that authority,” stated the note, relevantly.
