Village community builds plastic free nursery at Kijumetouma

Kohima, June 27 (MExN): A Plastic Free Community Nursery was constructed at Kijumetouma by the village community sponsored by Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kohima Forest Division. The nursery was inaugurated during a routine inspection by department officials on June 27. 

According to a DIPR report, during the programme, DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen appreciated the community for their cooperation in forest conservation and also for raising the first plastic free community nursery in the entire district. She said that successful implementation of a plastic free nursery in a village is a step forward in fulfilling the objective of the department to reduce the single use plastic footprint. 

Pezaneino, Ranger highlighted on the technical aspect of sapling transplantation on the field with regard to minimizing transplantation shock and proper management of nursery saplings. 

The village community has raised around 5000 saplings of flowering and fruiting species in cloth bags and biodegradable containers. A plantation drive programme will take place in next few days sourcing the plastic free saplings from the nursery.
