Village Council withdraws permission from ALRMC on Oil Exploration

WOKHA, AUGUST 31 (MExN): As the prospects of Oil Exploration at Champang has speeded up, a general public of Old Tssori village under Wokha village was called by the Village Council on august 28. The meeting discussed the contentious issue of granting permission to ‘a company’ for exploration and production of oil & natural gas before it finally allowed a firm for exploration works in its soil. The meeting decided no company other than the one licensed by the Government of Nagaland, would be allowed for mining Oil and Natural gas from its jurisdiction.

The meeting is also said to have reviewed its earlier decision and withdrew the approval given to the “All Lotha Resource Management Co-operative (ALRMC), Champang. The approval was withdrawn based on the fact that the ALRMC are “not only government unauthorized party” but also “viewed to be against the interest of the village” stated the release issued by Wokhungo Humtsoe and Mhabemo, Head GB and Secretary of the village council. 

The house further decided that any member of the Land Owners Union or the Village Council Members, engaging in a deal with any Oil Company, without the knowledge of the village authority would be viewed seriously, even to the extent of removing him from his post. The council also issued a cution to any company dealing with any individual behind the village authority and without due permission from the government would doing so at their own risk, for which the VC would not be held responsible.
