Nagaland’s Governor PB Acharya spoke highly of village life, terming it “beautiful” during his recent visit to three villages – Lozaphuhu, Phek and Chizami under Phek district.

He expressed delightfulness over the green surroundings, fresh air, lifestyle and the rich cultural heritage.

During his visit, Acharya mingled with the villagers and also experienced the Naga traditional kitchen at Lozaphuhu village.

He also expressed happiness that even elderly people of his age enjoyed traditional group dance during his visit.

He said the ancestors have made a system that all should gather together and celebrate with dances.

Sharing the scenario of city to the villagers, he said Mumbai with 1.25 crore population, it is impossible to have fresh air and that there are all types of diseases. He further pointed out more than 65 lakh population live in slum area with no doctors, no teachers, and no schools.

“This is the situation of the city,” he said.   Referring to conservation of forest and wildlife by Lozaphuhu village, he was appreciative that every village in Nagaland has reserved forest.

He said Naga ancestors have created a system not to destroy the environment, keeping in view that if they destroy the environment it will invite earthquake, flood and landslide.

“We have to use our environment very carefully,” he said.

Stating that the ancestors opted that there should be a big forest, he lauded Lozaphuhu village for keeping the forest alive.

In order to conserve forest and wildlife, Lozaphuhu village has been undertaking community conservation of forest and wildlife.

An area of 7 sq km has been apportioned as forest and wildlife reserved area. Felling of trees and poaching in conserved area is strictly prohibited.

Also in order to preserve the aquatic life, an area of 2.5 km in the Lanye river has also been set as aquatic conservation area. In this location, fishing activity of any kind that may disturb the aquatic niche is strictly prohibited.
