DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 20 (MExN): The Sümi Village Council, under Phek district today informed that the village has been without water supply since June 6, and urged the government to address their grievances. A press note from the SVC Chairman, Neitelo Rhakho said that since 1974, only 1 inch of Welheri Water was supplied to Sümi village. “In 1998 with the growth of population in the Town, 1 inch of water supply was reduced to ½ inch of water supply to Sümi village,” it added.
The SVC further stated that under the flagship of the GoI, the village communitized Water Supply to it in 2006. “However, the Welheri Water Source owners lodged complaint that their water source should not be communitized. Then the Sümi Village Council requested the PHE Department to withdraw communitization of water supply to Sümi Village. The Welheri Water Source owners and Town Adhoc Committee Chizami decided to stop water supply to Sümi Village till communitization is withdrawn,” it added.
Following this, the SDO (Civil) issued order to stop water supply to the village on June 11, 2018. The SVC however said that water supply had already stopped since June 6. It also informed that the PHE Department issued withdrawal of WATSAN Committee in respect of Sümi village via an order dated August 29, 2018.
“As per the order, Sümi village dissolved WATSAN Committee and submitted Passbook and Cheque book to Executive Engineer, PHE, Phek on November 7, 2018,” it stated. However, the SVC lamented that till today, water supply has still not reached their village. It therefore appealed to the government authorities and Secheku Area leaders to address their plight.
