Kohima, March 14 (MExN): A financial literacy camp was held at Tuophema and Botsa villages, the pilot project areas of Poorna Shakti Kendra, on March 9. It was organised by the Mission Poorna Shakti Kendra in collaboration with NSSWB, NMDFC and SRCW and supported by FIF NABARD.
Saran Kumar Chetri, Manager, UCO Bank, Kohima highlighted the importance of banking. He cited incidents where villagers or the common people face difficulties while depositing or transferring money to their children who are studying outside the State. He further shared on the various benefits linked with bank accounts, including insurance policies on health, accident etc, a press release informed. The resource person also informed that in order to avail loan and schemes from the banks it is mandatory to have an operational account.
Meanwhile, Asalie A. Kruse, Project Manager, NSSWB spoke on the significance of digital banking and stressed on the need for all to get familiarized with the present scenario, where everything is becoming digitalized. He also pointed out how the public had suffered because of demonetization of the 500 and 1000 currency overnight. “Therefore, in order to tackle this kind of issues we have to be on our feet and we have to be smart.” Further, he encouraged the villagers and the farmers to have a bank account, which he said is a must for everyone, and to apply for an ATM card. Keduokhonuo Cerina Belho shared on Women Helpline 181, One stop Center and Childine-1098. She highlighted how the Women Helpline came into being and why the present society needs to be aware of this helpline. She also informed that the helplines are toll free, and anyone can call any time since it is a 24/7 service.
Ajabu Tungoe, District Coordinator, PSK, took over the interactive session with the women and shared on the existing schemes of the Government and also cleared the confusions of some women who face problem while applying for these schemes.
After the session, a tree plantation was held to commemorate the International Women’s Day as well as Swachhta Pakhwada, which is an initiative of the NMEW Scheme.
