Wokha, September 19 (MExN): A training workshop on simple methods of protecting crops from elephants was conducted by Wildlife Division, Dimapur at Khonkholi village, Wokha District, on September 16. The workshop was attended by around 45 people from surrounding villages. During the training, the Forest staff had an interaction with the villagers about the elephant problems in the area.
The staff demonstrated how to make use of simple common ingredients like chilli powder, grease, tobacco, saw dust and rope to make an elephant repelling fence, or even burn the same in small patches surrounding the areas. “These methods are being practiced in other parts of the Country where there are human elephant conflict. These methods have proven to be very much useful and effective in those areas,” stated a press release. The forest staff encouraged the farmers to practice these simple methods so as to deter the elephants from crop damaging.
