Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): Villages in Dimapur today denounced the 13th Indian Reserve (NAP) over an accident that left two persons dead on October 13. Organizations from Tsithrongse Village, Dhansiripar sub-division and Urra area villages issued separate statements today accusing the police personnel of ‘knocking down’ two motorcycle-borne persons near Murise village where the rider reportedly died on the spot while the pillion rider succumbed to injuries.
Narrating the accident, Tsithrongse Village Council said ‘law-keepers’ themselves are breaking the law and in such a case, citizens are no longer safe. In its note the council appealed to the authorities to penalize the erring personnel and compensate the families of the victims. Interestingly, the council said that no doctors were on duty when one of the victims was taken to Dimapur Civil Hospital for treatment at around 9AM.
A joint statement from the Dhansiripar Sub-Division Public Organization and Urra Area Villages’ Union also denounced the IR personnel. The organizations criticized the commander of the troops for being unable to handle the personnel. “Are they (jawans) not supposed to protect the citizens?” the two organizations queried.
The two also expressed resentment against Dimapur district hospital for “its negligence of duty as emergency duty doctor was not available to attend the victim patient when he was admitted at the hospital till he breathed last.” The IRB personnel are also accused to using ‘provocative words’ against public who gathered at the site of the accident.
The organizations have sought immediate action of the authorities against the erring IR personnel “before the situation turns ugly.” The statement demanded compensation and other “necessary measures” from the government to the family members of the victims. The statement was appended by the respective presidents of the two organizations.
