Villages resolve to conserve forest and protect wild life

Peren, July 25 (MExN): A meeting comprising of seven villages namely, Ndunglwa, Peletkie, Deukwaram, Ngwalwa, Heningkunglwa, Lamhai and Dungki under Peren district was held at Dungki village to discuss the matter pertains to conservation of forest and wild life protection in their village jurisdiction.  

The meeting was organized under the initiative of Kelei Zeliang, Secretary Rural Development. In the meeting, Kelei Zeliang elaborately explained about the evil effects of hunting, fishing with chemicals, jungle burning and urged the villagers to stop the practice at the earliest in compliance with the District Administration order.  

All the representatives from the seven villages expressed their views in favour of banning hunting, fishing with chemicals and jungle burning within their village jurisdiction. Accordingly, the house unanimously adopted four point resolutions to ban hunting, fishing with chemicals/battery within their village jurisdiction; to completely stop jungle burning within their village jurisdiction and to prohibit hunting in another village jurisdiction even outside the restricted area. It also resolved to impose fine on the violator/violators as per the rate specified hereunder: Per Cartridge gun-Rs. 5,000; Per Air gun-Rs. 2,500; Jungle burning-Rs. 10,000 and Fishing with chemicals/battery- Rs. 5,000.  

VCC Lamhai and Convenor Haibamko in a press release also informed that the seized gun will be released to the owner of the gun after receiving payment of the amount of fine. The above resolutions will take effect from August 1, 2016.
