Villages seek explanation on ‘controversial’ map

DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): Chairmen of 9 Poumai villages have taken strong exception to a map that includes their villages as under Tangkhul area. Seeking a personal clarification from the president of the Tangkhul Naga Long, the chairmen stated, “We are originally Poumai villages under Senapati district. Mentioning our village names in the Tangkhul map is nothing but an evil design to disturb peaceful atmosphere and social harmony within the community.”

The Tangkhul Naga Long has been asked to furnish a clarification on the controversial map and identify the organization, group or individual responsible for the publication. The 9 villages have also sought an apology through newspapers from the concerned drawer(s) of the map at the earliest possible in order to maintain peaceful coexistence.

The map, reportedly traced by one Ayo Kaping on August 29, 1997, includes villages Ngari Khullen, Ngari Lishang, Ngari Raidulomai, Thiwa, Shongdo, Khamsom, Khamsom Hopfii, Tingsong Khullen and Lower Tingsong.
