Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): Gaili village and Ruzaphema village have settled their long-drawn land dispute upholding the judgment passed by the then Deputy Commissioner of the then Naga Hills, SJ Duncan, dating back to 1951. The settlement was arrived on June 15, 2007 between the two villages. A joint statement from leaders of both the villages, mediators and counter-signatories stated that a peace treaty was signed on May 17, 2000 between Gaili village and Ruzaphema village. In acknowledgement of good traditional relationship of the Tenyimia community, a sum of Rs. 2 Lakh is marked to be given by Ruzaphema to Gaili. Accordingly “in exchange with a token of signed a piece of land measuring 100 feet by 100 feet to be given to Gaili village to Ruzaphema from the area of Northern Zeme Weekly market as mutual co-existence.”
The representatives of the two villages resolved in Toto to withdraw all pending suits filed against each other from any court of law with immediate effect especially the present suit filed in the High Court by Gaili against Ruzaphema as well as with the DC of Dimapur.
