Vincent’s murder: A patricide case?

DIMAPUR, JUNE 22 (MExN): In a shocking revelation to the gruesome murder of Vincent Dzuvichu, it is reported that the victim’s eldest son (from first marriage) has confessed to the police that he committed the crime. The accused, identified as Bendang, aged about thirty years, is the eldest son of Vincent Dzuvichu from his first wife, is now under police custody.

Highly reliable sources disclosed that police suspected the involvement of Bendang in the murder since last evening. However, they could not detain and take him into custody due to lack of hard evidence as well as requests from the family’s side to let him attend his father’s funeral.

After attending Dzuvichu’s funeral and spending a night at Kohima, the accused returned to Dimapur at the insistence of the police. He was accompanied by members of L-Khel of Kohima village. Bowing to the pressure of police interrogation, Bendang is said to have confessed to murdering his father, along with some accomplice (s).

On investigating the house of the women with whom Bendang lived in Chumukedima, members of Kohima L-Khel are reported to have found carpet, cloths, shoes etc to have been freshly laundered. The recovered items have been given to the police as evidence.

It is learnt from highly reliable sources that the accused, Bendang served as a Naik in the 9th IRB, and was even posted in Chhatishgarh, for a short while, until he took voluntary pension from the IBN. He opened a restaurant near a check gate in Chumukedima and was running the restaurant with his live-in partner.

Some persons ransacked the restaurant, damaged a scooter and set goods on fire. Those who knew Bendang, the accused, are in a state of shock and disbelief. “Maybe some evil spirit entered into his heart and compelled him to commit the crime; we never thought that he would do such things,” said one person who has associated with the accused for many years.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the accused was a very sociable, frank and a good person who was also a very good badminton player.

Maintaining that the investigations are still on, the police is keeping tightlipped on the whole matter. However it is learned that the police are suspecting more people to be involved in the killing. It maybe mentioned that Vincent’s body was found with several stab injuries near the Chumukedima Police Training Centre in the early hours yesterday. The accused had concocted a story of being on the way to Kohima with his father when Vincent went “missing” after receiving a mysterious a phone call.
