Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): Vishal Mart located in the heart of the town near the Clock Tower, had a narrow fire escape on Saturday morning. The shopping mall’s northern side of the building caught fire at around 10:00 am leaving the residents living in the vicinity panicking. According to firemen, who responded to the scene, protective coir mats draped over the side of the building, caught fire while workers were doing some wielding works on the building. The exterior of the building is currently under renovation and the workers had draped the mat over the side supported by a bamboo skeletal frame. Fortunately, the fire did not spread as only the meshed coir mat was burned, while sparing the supportive bamboo frame as well as the building. The fire brigade responded with three fire trucks and made sure it did not spread further.
