
Kisama, December 7 (MExN): The Hornbill Blowing of Horn competition was held at the Kisama main arena on December 7 where defending champion Visosieto Vupru from the Angami Morung was judged as the winner while Chingpong form the Phom Morung and Wenlad Konyak from the Konyak Morung were judged second and third respectively.
The 25th Edition of the Hornbill Festival 2024 witnessed thirteen tribal morungs taking part at the Blowing of Horn competition where the youngest contestant was 19 years of age and the oldest was 85 year old from the Konyak tribe.
The winners were judged on three criteria including sustenance, creativity and melody. The competition was organized by Tribal Vision in collaboration with Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland. Tribal Vision society was formed in 2012 with the sole objective of picking up fallen thread and reviving forgotten cultural practices.
Run For Hornbill against Time
The Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change organized "Run for Hornbill Against Time" on December 7. The 5.40-kilometer run commenced at New Police Reserve Junction and concluded in Kisama, Kohima. Designed as an inclusive event, the fun run welcomed participants of all ages. Men's Category Winners: 1st: Wede T Mero, 2nd: Tsole Yhokha, 3rd: Shiangjiu T Khiamniungan, 4th: Sochiu S and 5th: Wangnao. Women's Category Winners: 1st: Tsuchoi T, 2nd: Niansai T, 3rd: Songmo P, 4th: Cekrotalu Khesoh and 5th: Vekholhulu.
All together there were 226 participants. The youngest participant was 13-year-old Helen, while Khughavi Sema, aged 54, was the oldest participant.
State Level Spear Throwing Competition
Tribal affairs Department organised a State Level spear throwing competition on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebration & IEC campaign during the Hornbill festival at NSF solidarity park, Kohima on December 7. Letuozo Patrick Kiewhuo Angami emerged as the winner while Merithung Lotha and Penhaulungzing Mbung Zeliang secured second and third positions respectively. Altogether 32 participants participated representing sixteen tribes and foreigners from Australia and Sri Lanka also participated in throwing the Naga spear.
State Level Log Cutting Competition
The State Level Log Cutting Competition on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Celebration & IEC Campaign for Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA) was held on December 7 during 25th Hornbill Festival at the NSF Solidarity Park, Kohima.
The competition was funded by the Minister of Tribal Affairs and organised by Tribal Research Institute Nagaland under the Department of Tribal Affairs, Nagaland. All 16 tribes of Nagaland participated with one participant from each tribe.
Rhavi Rume (Chakhesang tribe) emerged as the Champion while Ruokuohetuo Rulho (Angami tribe) and Yhunsinlon Lorin (Rengma tribe) were placed at the 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
