VK Area leaders resolve to tackle extortion on NH-2

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): The VK Area GB's Association, VK Range Students' Union (VKRSU), VK Area Peoples Organization (APO), and local public leaders held a meeting to address rising concerns over extortion and illegal taxation on National Highway 2 by various Naga political groups.

The meeting resulted in a resolution to strictly prohibit all forms of extortion and illegal taxation along the 20-kilometer stretch of NH-2, from Doyang to Izheto village, under the jurisdiction of the V.K area. They cautioned that noncompliance would result in harsh penalties, stating that individuals or groups found engaging in such activities would face severe consequences.

The civil society bodies called on the Naga political groups to cease extortion along the highway, warning that continued illegal activities would force them to withdraw cooperation and take collective action. The three organizations reaffirmed their commitment to working alongside the administration and police to keep the highway free of anti-social elements.

Emphasizing the safety and protection of travelers, the leaders urged the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of extortion or harassment to the authorities. A list of helpline numbers was provided for travelers to seek assistance in case of threats or unwanted interactions.
