Voice of protest against Naga Supra State Body

Imphal | November 17 : Ever since the publication of a report in newspapers few days ago saying a “Supra State Body “ will be given to the Nagas as a Christmas gift, voices of resentment and opposition continue to come out from the Manipur valley. On Thursday, the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) and Senior Citizens for Society (SCS) strongly voiced against such Supra State Body.
According to The Seven Sisters Post newspaper reproduced by Imphal based dailies, the negotiations between the Indian Government and the NSCN-IM faction are now in its final stages, and Seven Sisters Post newspaper has access to all its many details. The final settlement envisages a “special federal relationship” between India and Nagaland and creation of a “Supra-state body” for the Nagas of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to be given as this year’s Christmas gift to “preserve, protect and promote their cultural, social and customary practices”, according to a report published by The Seven Sisters Post.
The offer to create a pan-Naga ‘Supra State Body’, instead of the “Greater Nagalim” demanded by the NSCN, has been touted by Indian negotiators as the “Second best option for the Naga people”, the report said.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) said the proposed term “Supra-State Body” is found nowhere in the Indian Constitution and firmly stated that the party stands for territorial integrity of Manipur as well as the integrity of all the ethnic communities of Manipur.
The statement came following an emergency meeting of the central committee of the party which was convened to discuss the issue of Supra-state Body at its office here. “The party condemns and opposes the proposed Supra-State Body in the strongest term and it was resolved that it would fight tooth and nail against the formation of such state body”, MPP president Dr. Nimaichand Luwang told the press after the emergency meeting.
The opposition leader said MPP will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister, President, Union Home Minister and the same copy of the memorandum will also be given to the State governor, Chief Minister and other political parties. ‘If Supra-state Body comes into force, a civil war will spark. So, MPP demands to the Government of India and Government of Manipur to speak out the truth to the people within one week”, Dr. Luwang said.
The party will also stage a demonstration at its office premises on November 19 to protest against the proposed Supra-State Body, he informed, while appealing to the public to join them in the protest demonstration. Senior MPP leader O. Joy, who was also talking to the media, stated that Supra-state body” is a political term being brought up by the Government of India and NSCN-IM in the peace talks. “This is the first step for breaking up Manipur into pieces.”
The Indian government is only listening to whatever Issac Muivah says according to his desire because of the fear of NSCN-IM, Joy alleged. Joy asserted that Manipur was merged to India for a better state and development. Also, Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur (SCS Manipur) has taken serious note of the extremely dangerous development of the polico-social crisis in Manipur and adjoining area, arising out of the publication of the news report on Supra-State Body to be handed over to the Nagas as an Christmas gift.
The surcharge political environment has come out as a result of the deliberations and understandings between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM to the proposed political theory and concept for a political solution of Nagaland, and the Nagas as a whole, said N. Binoy Singh, president SCS Manipur during a press conference at its office here on Thursday.
The core committee of SCS Manipur has perused all the available documents and details published by the regional and local dailies, statement by the Chie minister, leaders of political parties, politicians, and statements from the civil societies of the state. Having gone into details of all sources, the committee opined that Manipur will face an unending political, constitutional, administrative, and law and order problems if wishes and aspirations of the Manipuris to protect their aged old territory are dumped unceremoniously.
“Greater Nagaland and the Supra-State Body are the two sides of the same coin.”Alternative arrangement territory” proposed by the Nagas of Manipur, under the guidance of the NSCN-IM, is closely linked to Supra-State Body concept”,  Binoy claimed.
“The SCS Manipur with justice and humility in the mind, hopes that New Delhi will do justice to the Manipuris who inhabit the state, saying disintegration of Manipur will have far-reaching politico-strategic impact to the vital national interest of the Union of India”, noted Binoy.
