Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): Sporting activities under the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development initiative are underway at different venues in Dimapur and Chümoukedima.
The events are being organised by 78 Battalion and 173 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), focusing on sports participation, youth engagement, discipline, teamwork and community interaction.
At NIDC, Dimapur, 78 Battalion CRPF is conducting a Women’s Volleyball Tournament in collaboration with SAI from September 7 to 10.
Four matches were played on September 8, with Court Queen Club defeating Sparow 2-0, Titanias beating Modern College 2-1, Volaris Team defeating Blaze Club 2-0 and Unity Club overcoming Court Queen Club 2-0.
The tournament aims to encourage greater participation of women in sports and promote a healthy and positive sporting culture in the region, a press note from the 78 Battalion stated.
Meanwhile, a Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament organised by 173 Battalion was inaugurated on September 9 at the Transit Camp near DC Court, Dimapur.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Ashok Kumar Yadav, Commandant, 173 Bn CRPF, as Chief Guest, along with other officers, SAI representatives, coaches, officials, participating teams and sports enthusiasts.
A total of 22 teams from different parts of Nagaland and nearby areas are participating in the tournament, which is scheduled to conclude with the final on September 11.
The volleyball tournament is being held alongside a four-day Men’s and Women’s Open Badminton Tournament organised by 173 Battalion at CIHSR, 4th Mile, Chümoukedima.
Around100 shuttlers from across the region are taking part in the event concluding on September 12.
Addressing the gathering at CHISR, Yadav highlighted the role of sports in instilling discipline, building mental resilience and channeling youth energy towards nation-building.
He said sports can break social and regional barriers while fostering mutual respect and camaraderie, and urged participants to embrace fair play, integrity, leadership and personal growth, informed a press release from the 173 Bn CRPF.
The CRPF stated that the sporting initiatives are intended to provide platforms for local athletes to showcase their talent while promoting peace, unity, sportsmanship and greater interaction between security forces and local communities.
The events also form part of the CRPF’s community outreach efforts to encourage youth participation and foster mutual trust and goodwill between the Force and the public.
