Miss Nagaland 2019 shares ‘Beauty with a Purpose Project’ experience
Kohima, September 22 (MExN): In a webinar organized by FPA India, Nagaland Branch on September 21, Vikunuo Sachu, Miss Nagaland 2019 and Nagaland State SVEEP icon talked about volunteerism with her experiences volunteering in various projects.
In a brief introduction on the definition of volunteerism, Sachu said that it is known as the involvement of voluntary work in community labor especially in community service, givenby English definition. While in Christian perspectives, it is known as selflessly helping despite any race or culture, rich or poor, male or female and being able to show your act of love upon others.
“Volunteerism is not only about helping someone who is unfortunate but it is an act of kindness and being able to extend your hand to someone in need. To volunteer or help someone, one does not need to be a public figure, Miss Nagaland, Miss India, a social worker or a celebrity but that person should have the empathy towards the need of the others,” stated Sachu.
She shared a brief experience about her ‘Beauty with a Purpose Project’ titled ‘Livelihood Matters Embracing Kindness’ where she sold organic vegetables supplied to her by the local farmers across Nagaland and acknowledged all the privilege and access she had during the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown while there were people struggling for their daily need. She also mentioned that volunteering in various sectors helped her to understand the socio- economic condition of our society.
Further, she added that there are many young people willing to contribute to our society butthey are look down because of their age and the belief that young people lack capability to handle responsibilities but she elucidated that young people have clear vision, more potentials and innovative ideas to understand the needs of the people and work better towards the upliftment of the society. She encouraged the young people not to wait for opportunity but to venture and extend their helping hand and build opportunities for people in need.
“The assistance might not be in terms of cash but an act of kindness with an innovative idea and a great approach to redefine the society “stated Sachu.
Sachu concluded stating “volunteerism is a very new concept in our society and sometimes there is a pessimistic outlook when someone wants to help but that should not stop an individual to do good for the society.”
