Vote for Cong, Independent candidates to show disapproval of demonetization: NPCC

Dimapur, January 20 (MExN): President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie today appealed to all urban voters to send a message of disapproval (of demonetization) to the Prime Minister by voting for the “few brave-heart” Congress nominees and Independent candidates left in the ULB election.

“Voting for DAN nominees would mean you are approving demonetization. It will be a terrible mistake,” Therie stated in a press release.

On the other hand, the NPCC leader expressed sadness that the State Government has chosen the path of confrontation with civil societies. Observing the situation, many of the Congress workers fully co-operated with civil societies and did not search candidates, he said. On January 7, 2017, the release added, few Congress nominees had filed nominations assuring the tribe hohos that if DAN nominees withdraw, they will also withdraw. “Our intention was to give clean and corruption-free councils. For a decade, NPF nominees have corrupted all the resources and ruined urban habits.”

Many of the Congress nominees were forced to withdraw, however, NPF and BJP nominees could not be prevented and some councils and nominees will be elected unopposed, he pointed out.

Stating that the important thing in the coming ULB elections is to provide clean and decent councils and send a strong message of denouncement of demonetization to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Therie added, “We also must tell him that we live in democracy and do not agree to diktats. Such a major policy impacting the entire population of the nation must be routed through the House of Representatives.”

He maintained that every person in Nagaland is suffering because of the demonetization. “Excepting few corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, Nagaland’s public has no black money. Whatever money people have are hard earned money, whether it is in the bank or at home. This belongs to the people and we are entitled to have freedom over our own hard earned money,” he asserted.

Therie further stated that the advice of Cashless Economy is “without thought over the required infrastructure such as Banks, ATMs and Swipe machines; the eternal link failures and that over 90% of the rural population do not have bank accounts.”

Supporting the charter of demands Rahul Gandhi has launched, NPCC also demanded that all rules floated after demonetization be withdrawn.
