VSAT Seismic Telemetry Network in Mokokchung soon

Kohima, February 15 (DIPR): Director, Earthquake Risk Evaluation Centre, (EREC) New Delhi, Rajesh Kumar had a meeting with Mokokchung district administration and other officials in the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on February 15, 2010 to discuss matters relating to setting up of VSAT Seismic Telemetry Network at Mokokchung.

The infrastructure development for setting up the observatory centre is almost completed at the DC’s official residential area and installation of equipments at the site would start shortly. Rajesh Kumar said the Seismic Observatory Field Station at Mokokchung would need no human service as it would be monitored by IMD, New Delhi. However he sought security of the Station from the district administration and fencing of the station. He said installation of instruments would be completed in the next four months and hoped that it would be put into operation at the earliest. Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Asenla Keitzar, who chaired the meeting, assured all help from the district administration.

Earlier, the Director made a Power Point presentation at the meeting showing characteristics of earthquakes and importance of setting up of such a seismic field station in a place like Mokokchung town. He said a similar station would be set up at Kohima near the New Assembly Secretariat.
