
Mokokchung, October 17 (MexN) : The third edition of Padmashree W. Nokdenlemba Open Volleyball Tournament organized by Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) got underway at Multi-Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 17 withImyapangla, Block Development Officer, as the Chief Patron.
Speaking at the programme, Imyapangla expressed her hope that the tourney will promote many young talents in the District as well as in the State. She also urged the AKM to organize the tourney in a bigger way in the future so that teams from outside the State would participate and popularized the game. She asserted that sport is an avenue were people achieve fame and glory and also set a career for the person who strived to excel in the sports disciplined they play. The Chief patron also urged the players to uphold sportsman spirit as inscribed in the tourney theme, “On team One Spirit.”
Seven teams- Changtongya Volleyball Association (A); Waromong Sports Association, Janjanglong Club, Chakpa Student Union, Young Spiker, Tuensang, Sporting Club Chungtia; Longsa Sporting Club, Mokokchung and Changtongya Volleyball Association (B) will be competition for the coveted title.
This year champion will get a cash prize of INR 100000/- plus trophy and runner-up will receive a cash prize of INR 60000/-.
The organizer has also included INR 20000/- each to the two losing semi-finalist and individuals prizes.
Earlier, the president of AKM delivered the welcome address and C Lima, Associate Pastor, MBC offered the invocation.
In the inaugural match, Changtongya Volleyball Association (A) beat Waromong Sports Association by 25-12; 25-20; 25-17.
