WAC Dimapur oppose change of nomenclature

Dimapur, July 6 (MExN): The Walford Area Council, (WAC) Dimapur in connection to the change of nomenclature from Walford Colony to Northern Angami has submitted an objection statement to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur.

The statement has been appended by Chairman Mirhu, Vice Chairman Neikietso Angami, Secretary Zulu Ozukum, Jt. Secretary Medovoyi Medeo, Treasurer Asa Chakhesang, Head GB N. Rengma and ten member representatives. It stated that the Council is perturbed to have received derogatory action of the Government to have arbitrarily changed the mandatory nomenclature from ‘Walford Colony to Northern Angami vide letter No. GEN-14/2004-D/Pt dated 18-06-09 (photocopy received by the Walford Area Council dated 19-06-10) without the consent and knowledge of the concern local authorities or objection notice. 

In this connection, the Council stated that “Walford Area” is a Government recognised colony under Dimapur town with a distinctive entity constituted by various Naga tribes with no special relevance to any particular section of people or community vide the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur office Order No. GEN-14/89-D/8466-70 dated 07-09-1990 and since then the Walford Area Council has been constituted as governed by the Nagaland Village Council Act, 1978 and established with full functionary without misunderstanding from any quarter whatsoever with the jurisdiction of the said Act nor controversy of its officially recognised nomenclature “Walford Area” with colony demarcation Walford-Burma Camp Road and Dhansiri River nor boundary dispute with adjacent colonies from either side till date. 

Further, the statement mentioned that in the light of the above facts and circumstances the Walford Area Council in its meeting dated 26-062010 resolved to strongly object and protest against the change of mandatory nomenclature from Walford Colony to Northern Angami which is unwarranted and uncalled for and therefore the mandate resolution for general interest of Walford Area Council should not be outsourced not jeopardized for the sectional vested interested.

It is therefore requested that the matter be revoked at the earliest in the interest of peaceful social harmony and co-existence of the general public in the area to avoid misunderstanding and future complications.
