Waku Tara today emerged the champion title of 38th Wrestling meet 2025 of Losami Wrestling Association (LWA) held at Losami Local Ground.
Winning the champion title under A Category, Tara pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 18,000.
Chenewe Swuro, Menuwehi Mekrisuh and Thomewe Khesoh stood 2nd, 3rd and 4th position and awarded with Rs. 15,000, Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.
Under ‘B’ Category, Khomewe Hothe, Herhewe Tara, Kewechiizo Akami and Emhechehi Mekrisuh bagged the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th position and awarded with Rs 7000, Rs 5000, Rs 4000 and Rs 3000 respectively.
Lirhu Wezah bagged the champion title under 15 category and received Rs. 8000.
Menuhi Mekrisuh, Wawute Mekrisuh and Kolo Swuro stood 2nd, 3rd and 4th position and awarded with Rs 6000, Rs 5000 and Rs 4000 respectively.
The prize money under 15 Category was sponsored by Losami Uniform Service Union.
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function as the special guest, Wepe Mekrisuh, secretary COB Naga People’s Front (NPF) Nagaland said that Naga wrestling has been gaining a significant popularity and called upon the youngsters to actively involve in this indigenous sport in Nagaland.
He maintained that Naga wrestling is deeply associated with the cultural identity, signifying strength, fame, spirit of brotherhood, communal harmony and at the same time, preserving traditional values.
Stating that the discipline of wrestling offers fame and high prize money, Mekrisuh called upon the wrestlers to be dedicated and take on professional line to excel at the various levels.
Pfiitsiikolo Akami, secretary VDB Losami graced the closing function and gave away prize to the winners.
Meanwhile, track suit for selected wrestlers for upcoming Phek area wrestling meet will be sponsored Wewuhi Akami, PA to Advisor NSDMA & NRE, Government of Nagaland.
The patrons for 38th wrestling meet included; Chetezo Akami, Chekholo Akami, Kekhwehi Akami, Zote Theke, Hiweku Mebou, Tekhewe Khesoh, Chedeku K Tara, Wewuzo K Tara, Zekope Kepfoh, Mesete Akami and Mesewetso Akami.
The inaugural programme was led by Hichote Kepfoh while LWA president Kuhi Mekrisuh delivered welcome address.
LWA technical secretary Mehipe K Tara administered oath to the wrestlers.
Vote of thanks was proposed by LWA finance secretary Eyewekho M Nusoh.
Virielhoulie Miario, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dimapur, Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) general secretary Kukhoto Venyo, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) president Kuvesa Khamo and several dignitaries also present at the inaugural programme.
