KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 1 (MExN): The Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) has expressed displeasure and resentment over the “lackadaisical and callous attitude of the NHIDCL contractors” towards the four-lane road construction works under package-III stretch.
In a representation addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima on Thursday, WAPO stated that the latest work order was issued to the construction company M/S Brand Eagles in October 2023; however, no remarkable progress have been seeneven after four months.
Since the package-III falls under the jurisdiction of the DC Kohima, who is entrusted to oversee and monitor the progress of the work, WAPO has urged the concerned authority to ensure that the construction company do its work and considerable progress is seen by the public before the rainy season begins.
Also stating that it is well versed on the soil composition and topography of the land, WAPO has advised the contractorsthat earth cutting has to be followed by retaining walls of strong foundation without which it will trigger massive mudslides. And this should be done before the coming rainy season.
It observed that, earlier, earth cuttings were done extensively that triggered unexpected landslides causing damage to many terrace fields. It also expressed concern that some retaining walls were uprooted by minor mudslides, which exposed the “depthless foundation and dubious character of the companies.”
WAPO said if it was not satisfied with the quality of work and pace of progress, it would be compelled to resort to monitor the work on a day-to-day basis by its youths and volunteers.
