Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): The Joint Colony Forum, representing six colony councils and gaon burahs (GBs) under Ward No. 20 in Dimapur, has approached the Deputy Commissioner seeking immediate administrative intervention against an alleged unauthorised attempt to establish a new business organisation within United Colony.
In a formal representation submitted on September 17, the forum stated that certain individuals were attempting to form a parallel organisation under the name “Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan” without the consent or approval of the United Colony Council, the six constituent colony councils or other competent authorities.
The six colonies comprising Ward No. 20 are United Colony, Imkonglenden Colony, Ura Villa Colony, Circuit House Colony, S.M. Colony and Vilhume Colony.
According to the representation, the United Colony Council held a meeting with the concerned group on August 26, 2026, during which it made clear that no new business body would be permitted in Ward No. 20 without due collective consent.
At a subsequent meeting convened on August 30 with shop owners, business proprietors and landlords, the local business community unanimously refused to join or associate with the proposed forum, the representation stated.
Despite the local resolutions and a press release issued by the United Colony Council on September 9, the group allegedly issued a conflicting press statement on September 10, terming the council’s actions “wrong”.
Combined meetings held on September 11 and an emergency meeting on September 13, chaired by Ward No. 20 Councillor Lanuchuba Imchen at Hotel Saramati, unanimously resolved to ban any unapproved business organisations from functioning within the ward, the forum stated.
The Joint Colony Forum cautioned that unauthorised bodies could create parallel authorities, unnecessary administrative interference, friction and divisions among residents, traders and landlords.
It said an established mechanism involving the district administration, police, ward councillor and local councils was already effectively managing community and business-related matters.
The forum urged the Deputy Commissioner to prevent the functioning of any unapproved business associations in the area.
