World Environment Day was observed at Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Tuesday during which inauguration programme of household Waste Segregation was also held simultaneously.
Swachh Bharat Ambassador for Dimapur district, Geoffrey Yaden launched the Waste Segregation for Wet and Dry Waste under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). Addressing a gathering of colony chairmen, GBs, DMC officials and other public leaders, Yaden called for reminding oneself on the responsibilities of a clean and hygienic lifestyle. He also urged the leaders in attendance to sensitize the public on the SBM which he described as an action oriented mission.
Yaden pointed out that no amount of social works being carried out would improve sanitation in the town as long as people continue to senselessly throw wastes and garbage. He said it was every individual’s responsibility to keep their own homes, compounds and the town clean.
DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam could not attend the programme owing to other important official engagement.
However, his message was read out during the programme informing the public about establishment of recycle plant with imported technology at its designated landfill to provide eco-friendly atmosphere with zero pollution. The Mission can be possible only with the community participation and urge everyone to cooperate with the DMC, Moa stated in his message. Wards and colonies that were yet to submit the household list were informed to submit the same at the earliest to avoid delaying the success of the Mission.
Chairman, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, Tsenthungo; Dimapur GBs Union President, M.Y. Ngullie; Dimapur District Citizens Forum President, Joseph Lemtur and former DMC Councillor, Hokuto Zhimomi also spoke during the programme.
