A Water Conservation Reservoir at Khrari, Zapami village in Phek district was formally inaugurated today by Kevisa Kense, commissioner & secretary for Rural Development, Government of Nagaland.
Addressing the gathering, Kense assured to look into the representation submitted by Zapami Village Council for extension of the reservoir through 15th Finance Commission during 2024-25.
He lauded Zapami village for the successful implementation of the various projects under rural development department.
Kense urged upon the villagers to continue to uphold the spirit of unity for all round development.
He informed that the Rural Development department has been putting its best effort to strengthen the livelihood and economy of the rural populace.
In this, he stressed on the need to have proper planning to access various developmental packages.
Zapami Village Development Board secretary Kedoutsolhi Wetsah said that the construction of Water Conservation Reservoir was funded under MGNREGA scheme during 2022-2023.
“The Water Conservation Reservoir developed by Rural Development Department under MGNREGA has brought immense satisfaction and fulfillment of the long felt dream of the community,” he said adding it has added asset to the village and uplift the village economy.
The project will facilitate the farmers in irrigation to cultivate their T.R.C field, also promoting off-season farming by introducing mechanisms to tap the water from the reservoir for farming during lean season and also serving as a potential for Mini-Hydro Project in the near future.
Wetsah informed that the water body exemplifying the aquatic eco-system also represents as a source of water, food materials as well as a room for recreations, commercial fishing and promoting eco-tourism, where activities like trekking, boating, angling etc. will be introduced very soon which will be an avenue for income generation activity.
He said that the project was done under the supervision of Vekhrolo Koza, Block Development Officer, Pfiitsero, Dzieseneizo Liezietsu SO, Zaveyi Vadeo, Senior Scientist, Er Keneizhatuo Kuotsu, Er Pfütsülo Thasou, Er Neilo Kevie, Er Lhiwepe Khutsoh, Er Tsüthsowelhi Wetsah, Er Gyasülo Wetsah, Er Ritso Khutso, VDB Zapami and Rural Development Department.
Razouvolie Dozo, Joint Secretary, Horticulture, Government of Nagaland and Vekhrolo Koza, Block Development Officer, Pfutsero also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by Mikha Kenye, former president Chakhesang Public Organization.
Wekhazü Kreo, Chairman Zapami Village Council delivered welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Dingulo Khutso, president NDPP 16th Pfutsero A/C.
Zhoto-ii Wetsah and friends and Zapami Women Society presented special numbers. Wethsope Kero, Associate Pastor Zapami Baptist Church and Kezungulo Wetsah, Deacon prayed for the programme. Nagaland’s rural development director Azenuo Pienyü, Chakhesang Public Organization president Vezühü Keyho and several other dignitaries also present on the occasion. Presently, Zapami village has 2096 population with 388 households.
