Water supply project commissioned in Akuk Old Village

Wokha, February 4 (MExN): The much awaited water supply project in Akuk Old Village under Wokha district was finally commissioned by minister PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, who handed over the fully functioning water supply project to the water-starved village on February 4.
Funded by the NEC under ministry of DONER, the project worth Rs 285.22 lakh, implemented by the PHED department came into reality after six years (2014-20). The project has a capacity to provide 42500 litres per hour and can adequately supply to the entire village.
Speaking at the commissioning programme, Jacob congratulated the villagers on the occasion on behalf of the PDA government and assured all help in maintaining the water supply project. He informed that access to water, safe drinking water, was a top priority of the current BJP-led government at the centre and that his department was working tirelessly towards that end.
Jacob in his address highlighted the practical issues the villagers would face in maintaining the project and in that regard called for strengthening WATSAN and community contribution for sustainable and successful utilisation of the project.
Appointment of two work-charged labourers was assured by Jacob for maintaining the supply system. The minister further took the opportunity to highlight the various issues confronting the state, especially the rising level of unemployment where he stressed on the need to inculcate dignity of labour and humility among today’s youth.
Advisors Mmhonlumo Kikon, Mhathung Yanthan and H Haiying and Chief Engineer PHED were also present. District administration, PHED officials and officials from various departments attended the event.
