The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under Ministry of Shipping, Government of India through M/s. Rites Ltd has identified three rivers for water transport in Nagaland. It include: Tizu river located 42 km from Avakhung in Phek district for inter connectivity between Indo-Myanmar; Dhansiri river (110 km); and Dikhu river (52 km) for interstate transport with Assam. An Inland Water Transport Wing in the state’s transport department was set up to liaise and coordinate with Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The function of the nodal department is for identification of potential Inland Waterways and to undertake feasibility studies. This was stated in the Nagaland Economic Survey 2015-16 brought out by Economics & Statistics Department.
