Watershed Management Diploma Course launched in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 4: In collaboration with IGNOU, the Department of Land Resources on Tuesday launched one-year Diploma Course in Watershed Management at Resource Centre, Ruzaphema, Dimapur.

Launching the course, Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources, B.S. Nganlang Phom lauded the Department and IGNOU for coming together to impart the course which he added would benefit not only the students but the farming populace of the state as well. Referring to crores of rupees sanctioned by centre and state, Nganlang pointed out that the agri and allied departments has wasted lots of money in different areas since there was not much information and expertise about implementing the policies. “Most of the projects were never result oriented,” he added. However, Nganlang expressed the hope that with practical courses such as watershed management, the department of Land Resources would yield profitable results through the students who are mostly department employees.

Earlier, the Parliamentary Secretary distributed study materials to 47 registered students for the diploma course.
Commissioner & Secretary Land Resources, Menukhol John and Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre, Kohima, Dr. T. Iralu also spoke during the programme. Director Land Resources, Mhathung Yanthan who chaired the programme informed that the course is being funded by Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Land Resources.

The Research and Development Farm, Ruzaphema under Land Resource Department which was started in April 2004 has the main objective of demonstrating high tech poly house and cultivation of various off season crops, management of apiculture, ex-situ herbal garden, livestocks management etc.

Having a total area of 70 acres, another main objective of the Farm is to assure quality materials, technical inputs and to help people through practical experience and exposure to highest level of the targeted group.
