Dimapur, August 8 (MExN): Watinuksung Jamir, President of the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), has been appointed as the Team Manager of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played from August 7 to 27.
His selection marks the first instance of a cricket administrator from Nagaland being entrusted with a managerial role for the national team on an international tour. The appointment comes as recognition “of his leadership, experience, and continued contribution to the development and promotion of cricket in the state,” the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) stated in a press release.
The NCA noted that Jamir’s presence with the Indian team on an international tour will be a significant milestone, not only in his professional journey but also for Nagaland cricket. “It reflects the growing recognition of the state and its cricket administrators at the national level,” the Association stated in a press release.
Jamir, who has been at the helm of the NCA, has been instrumental in several grassroots and infrastructure initiatives aimed at promoting cricket across Nagaland. His new role is expected to bring added focus on the logistical and operational aspects of the team’s campaign in Sri Lanka.
Separately, the Dimapur District Cricket Association (DDCA) said that witnessing the very first administrator from Nagaland step into such a prestigious national role on the international stage is a moment of historic pride. “It stands as a well-deserved recognition of his visionary leadership, steadfast commitment, and tireless efforts toward elevating cricket across our region,” it stated. It gives our young players the confidence that no summit is out of reach, DDCA added.
