Watsü Mungdang censures ‘demeaning’ social media post

Mokokchung, November 5 (MExN): The Watsü Mungdang, the apex body of Ao Naga women, has condemned a Facebook post by a person/group calling itself "The Patriotic Nagas," which made demeaning remarks about Ao women, allegedly labelling them as “promiscuous.”

“This is most unfortunate and demeaning to all women, regardless of tribe or race,” it added.

“Whatever the political manoeuvres are, as painstakingly described by the postmasters, to unceremoniously drag in the name of Ao women into their argument and insult the dignity of Ao women is uncalled for,” the Watsü Mungdang asserted.

Instead, it pointed out that it reveals the intellect and character of the so-called "Patriotic Nagas."

Accordingly, the Watsü Mungdang wondered whether the person/group had any of the nightmares that Ao Naga women had to endure or how many members of Ao Naga families were “tortured and killed in front of their mothers and daughters by the Indian army because of our common goal” during the during the turbulent times of the Naga national movement.

“Would any true Naga patriot hide behind brave-sounding pseudonyms like 'Patriotic Naga' and insult other Naga tribes? The fact that the 'Patriotic Nagas' do so testifies to their own duplicity and cowardice,” it added.

“The postmasters' own words reveal them as double agents posing as patriots,” the Watsü Mungdang argued, adding that their “feeble attempt at concealing their insinuations behind some unnamed, unknown British bureaucrat's observations further compounds their abuse of Ao Naga women.”

To this end, the Watsü Mungdang asserted that it would leave no stone unturned, legal or otherwise, to uncover the true identity of these so-called "Patriotic Nagas" and bring them to book.

In addition, justice, as per our Ao traditional customs, without compromise, will be served, it said.

The Ao Naga women have endured many horrendous trials over the past many decades and we will continue to do so with self-respect and integrity, but to be accused of such turpitude by one who claims to be a Naga patriot is unforgivable, it added.
